U.S. imports of stainless steel flat products increased 74% (yoy) to 426 kt in 2021. December 2021 was the peak month of the last eight years with 61.6 kt level.

In 2021, about one fifth the stainless steel flat products imports went through Los Angeles. It was followed by Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Laredo, Chicago and Houston in order. Given seven districts accounted for more than 75% of the total stainless steel flat imports of the U.S.

Countries which the U.S. imported most of the stainless steel flats from were Taiwan (+176%, 120 kt), Mexico (+18%, 36 kt), India (+864%, 32 kt), Vietnam (+64%, 30 kt), France (+43%, 26 kt), Indonesia (+1300%, 24 kt), Belgium (+18%, 21 kt), Japan (+37%, 18 kt), South Korea (+6%, 18 kt) and Thailand (+78%, 17 kt). Imports from the listed ten countries composed 80% of the total stainless flat imports of the U.S.
